Beer Garden

The Pool

As you walk in on the left hand side there is a little beer garden with umbrellas and plastic tables and chairs. This is very reminiscent of an Aussie beer garden and you will quite often find a bunch of hotel guests and locals sitting here watching the passing parade on Fields Avenue while enjoying a few cold beers and the easy going comradeship of long term mates and new found friends.

Once inside the first thing that hits you is the delightfully cold air-conditioning which for people such as myself who feel the heat, is a pleasing factor. On the right hand side is the Majika travel agency desk staffed by friendly ladies who are both professional and courteous always willing to help you with your travel arrangements.

Next to them is the main reception desk staffed by a friendly and efficient lady always willing to help you with any hotel or general enquiries you may have.

On the wall behind her are the monetary exchange rates offered by the hotel and the hotel room rates which many people have stated currently represent the best value for money in Angeles. Along the front desk are a number of pamphlets and brochures advertising the multitude of goods and services available to Angeles visitors along with general information newspapers and magazines.

In the far right hand corner there are two computer stations for the use of hotel guests along with clocks showing the different time zones in major cities of the world.

Carrying on through the glass doors at the back of the reception one comes upon a delightful little oasis composed of a drinking bar and restaurant, based round an inviting swimming pool. This is a tastefully designed area combing uniquely Australian and traditional Filipino features.

The serving area for the bar is on the right hand side and staffed by some pretty girls who are always ready to pour a cold beer or a refreshing mixed drink accompanied by the classic disarming Filipina smile.

Behind the bar there is a plentiful collection of spirits and mixers along with the so called top shelf drinks such as Cognac imported rums and vodkas etc. There are several plasma screen televisions carefully placed throughout the area and all are connected to satellite television coverage. This allows guests to keep up with the news from home, place a bet or simply sit back and enjoy major sporting events from around the world.

The restaurant bar area is large and open air somewhat reminiscent of the modern day Aussie beer garden. This area can seat up to 60 people and is composed of 7 brown stained tables seating 4 people each and two long wooden tables seating at least ten people each.

Along the side of the bar area is a curved counter facing the swimming pool. Underneath are 3 stools in 4 separate sections thus seating 12 persons. This is like a separate area allowing customers to sit in the shade and watch the goings on in the inviting swimming pool.

The bar area has a very Australian feel complete with Australian beer mats featuring various Australian Rugby League teams, the now famous boxing Kangaroo flag and Australian pub memorabilia along with depictions of Australian Fauna and flora..

Out the back on the far right hand wall is a little kitchenette which produces quite simply amazing quality food. The menu here is predominantly Australian fare and features meat pies, a variety of burgers, sandwiches, steaks, bangers and mash and chicken schnitzel to name just a few of the items. This is truly delicious Aussie style tucker prepared by a small branch of the now famous Bunny Burger outlet.

There is also a large sized Barbeque for the use of guests and visitors but really comes into its own when they have the sausage sizzle 2PM every Sunday afternoon.

The restaurant is open 8AM to 6PM whilst the outside bar is open from 7AM through to 12PM.

The major attraction of this outside area is the delightfully inviting swimming pool. This is a medium sized pool as far as swimming pools in Angeles hotels go but it is tastefully designed and great for swimming in or just relaxing with the lady of your choice. At the front of the pool is a gently sloping shallow area which suddenly drops off giving way to a 10 foot deep pool perfect for frolicking in and idling away the daylight hours prior to heading out on the nightly bar hopping activities. On the side is a sunken table with seats around it and a nippa hut roof. This is a great area to just relax and enjoy a cold drink without ever leaving the swimming pool. There is nearly always something happening in the pool area and yet there are also quiet areas where hotel patrons and knowledgeable expats will enjoy a more intimate moment with their special someone.

The major part of any hotel is its rooms and the rooms here are a decent size very clean with all the basic amenities including hot and cold showers, cable TV, air-conditioning, mini bar, personal safe, coffee and tea, WIFI in all rooms, room to room and international direct dialing from all rooms. All rooms feature large comfortable double beds, tiled floors and are exceptionally clean.

As viewers can see, the prices in this hotel are very competitive and considering the rooms are newly constructed with all the mod cons, very practical, comfortable and centrally located, this has to be the best value hotel in modern day Angeles.

The deluxe rooms and VIP rooms face both the pool and Fields Avenue. The rooms facing Fields Avenue have a nice terrace area where customers can sit and enjoy the passing parade of Fields without leaving the comfort of their room.

At the time of writing this report all rooms were occupied as such we were not able to get photographs of the VIP, Jacuzzi rooms or the Family Rooms. The rooms in this hotel are virtually brand new and combine a high level of practicality, functionality and comfort. This is in many ways the classic Angeles hotel. It is basic and functional yet still manages to offer the important necessities and appropriate comfort levels. Combine this with its centralized location and realistic pricing and you have the archetypal Angeles Hotel.

The Walkabout hotel acknowledges and values Asian Escapades members and offers a 10% Discount when paying with credit card off accommodation costs for all members upon presentation of the AE card, or if you pay by cash you receive a 20% discount.
