There’s no doubt about it, Angeles is growing and expanding at a rapid rate and is one of the most popular tourist spots in the entire Philippines. The signs of growth are everywhere from the new malls and business developments on Clark through to the emergence of property development and new hotels.

One particular hotel worthy of note is the New Queens Hotel. Queens is a boutique hotel featuring 54 rooms in 5 different price categories, a gymnasium, a travel agency, a fine dinning restaurant, a large swimming pool, an ATM machine, a conference room and an in house transportation service.

Best of all it is literally 3 minutes stroll from the heart of Fields Avenue the renowned center of the Balibago entertainment district.

The Queens hotel is actually quite impressive and to my mind manages to include all the necessary mod cons together with a sense of style and class. This hotel is German owned and managed. exemplifying efficiency and organization, combined with friendly professionalism.

From the start it is very obvious a lot of thought has gone into the design of the hotel and the end result is one of practical functionality the likes of which is a pleasant surprise here in the Philippines. As you walk in the first thing that strikes you is the efficiently designed reception area. This area is spotlessly clean and makes the most of the available space, it is delightfully cool with an efficient air conditioning system and the front desk staff are all highly trained, speak English fluently and immaculately dressed. They are also very knowledgeable about the hotel and eager to answer any questions, plus for the tried traveler there is a very comfortable lounge in the right hand corner .

There are a number of factors that combine to make a good hotel and of these the most important is often the quality of the rooms. In regards to the rooms the Queens hotel in my opinion exemplifies functionality, comfortableness and attention to detail. For example, all rooms feature king size beds with a special “feel well” spring coil mattress, large flat screen TV’s, a fully stocked refrigerated mini bar, an in-room safe, a modern bathroom with a hot and cold water “king sized” shower, and an efficient quiet air-conditioning system.

Other standard features of all rooms include, a card operated electronic door lock, functional yet tasteful furniture fittings, a large wardrobe, a luggage rack, Sony DVD-player with a USB port, cable television offering over 90 channels, high speed WiFi, bedside telephone services, tasteful decorations and even hair dryers.

The lowest priced room is the Economy Rooms which are 2,990 piso per night but discounts are available. One thing I really liked about this room is that it is large and spacious encompassing an area of 24 Square meters. This means that rather than trying to cram as many rooms as possible into the available space, the owners have taken the opposite approach and designed the hotel so each room offers the required amount of space that foreign customers are used to.

The attention to detail is perfectly exemplified by the Economy Deluxe rooms which are large (24 square meters), face outside offering views of the entertainment district, brightly lit, spotlessly clean and include heavy drapes along with German PVC window frames and double glass to keep out unwanted noise from the surrounding streets. The Economy Deluxe rooms are 3290 piso per night but discounted rates are available.

The aptly named superior rooms are all in the front of the building facing outwards and offering views of the entertainment district. These rooms are large encompassing a total area of 32 square meters, German PVC window frames and windows which tilt and turn to open onto views of the exciting surrounds. Like the economy room and the Economy Deluxe these rooms feature a king sized bed, a large modern bathroom area, an efficient air-conditioning system, a writing desk, a fully stocked and refrigerated mini bar, a flat screen cable TV and as an added bonus there is a comfortable leather lounge, which seats 2 people.

When it comes to hotel rooms I have always liked rooms which feature a balcony and of course the Queens hotel has these. The Balcony Supreme rooms are slightly smaller than other rooms comprising a total area of 26 square meters but this is more than made up for by the 7 square meter balcony overlooking the swimming pool. These rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors which means they are ideal for couples or for those seeking a little privacy and quiet.

The biggest, best, and of course most expensive rooms, at the Queens hotel are the Balcony Executive rooms. These rooms incorporate all the features of the other rooms but have extra space being 32 square meters in diameter and a large 11 square meter balcony overlooking the swimming pool and tastefully designed courtyard. A special feature of this room is the mahogany flooring which gives guests a sense of luxury and old world charm plus there is a large bathroom which features a hot and cold water shower and a separately contained extra large bathtub fit for a king. The Balcony Executive rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors and they cost 4990 piso a night. These rooms are truly impressive and if one is the mood for pampering oneself they represent one of the best options in AC.

Personally speaking I like a nice swimming pool when staying in a hotel in Angeles and the pool in the Queens Hotel is truly impressive. The pool is in the middle of the hotel with rooms overlooking it and is more like a sparkling blue oasis than a hotel swimming pool. It is surrounded with comfortable deck chairs and a tastefully designed courtyard which features special tables and chairs where guests can wile away the hours or spend quality time with a special companion. The tables are also fully serviced with a complete range of drinks and food available. Sitting here it is like being in another world, and one can easily forget the trials and tribulations of everyday life.

On the top floor they have a large bar area which serves local and imported beverages at realistic prices. This is perhaps the perfect place to start ones evening activities or conduct a business meeting or simply wind down and relax after a strenuous days bar hopping.

The Queens Hotel is also the home of Piccolo Padre restaurant which in my opinion is definitely one of Angeles premier restaurants. The Piccolo Padre is marketed as a fine dinning restaurant and it certainly produces some fine cuisine. This restaurant produces the food for the hotel room service from --- to ---- making the hotel food the best in Angeles. It also caters for guests who wish to dine outside by the pool.

The Queens hotel at the time of writing is the new kid on the block yet already it has established an enviable reputation as being one of the best hotels in Angeles. With the spacious thoughtfully designed rooms, the excellent restaurant, the well maintained swimming pool, ATM access and the modern gymnasium this hotel is a class act and extends into a lifestyle choice as much as accommodation. Personally I have heard numerous favorable reports from people staying there and without exception they mention the convenient location, the tastefully designed spacious rooms complete with all necessary modern amenities, the enticing swimming pool and surrounds and the overall friendliness and efficiency of the staff. In my opinion this hotel is a class act from the word go and definitely a place I would recommend to AE customers.

Currently they are offering a 20% discount for cash payments which means they are unable to offer the AE discount, however negotiations are underway and if the AE discount is instigated at some time in the future it will be immediately noted on this review.
